Manufacturer PET Packaging – Segment Manager Europe – Food

Working with a large business group that is the leading European producer of PET and recycled PET  they business are also the largest designer and converter of PET into preform packaging in 15 countries around Europe.

The organisation is made up of 8 production plants around Europe plus one recycling plant and a centre of excellence in Belgium, the only facility of its kind in Europe, dedicated to researching new PET developments.

The organisation produces around 13.5 Billion units (Bottles, Jars and other containers) per year. The UK plant is the largest producing plant contributing 4.2 Billion units and employing circa 350 staff.The remaining plants in Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Morocco and Turkey split the rest of the production between them. The Marketing and Group operations are UK based.

The  Segment Manager role reported into the European Development Director as part of a 5 person team responsible for developing business across Europe, by segment this team looks after HPC, Alcohol, Food, Dairy and Juice. This was/is the new strategy of the company to have a “Champion” for each Segment.

The challenging part and the core of the search was to find suitable “Top Performer” candidates in either France, Belgium or the Netherlands – as this was where most of the core customers were situated - who had sold packaging exclusively into the Food Market at Head Office level.

Standley Associates were searching for candidates with a track record of business development and a broad range of contacts in the Food sector in particular with multinational food manufacturers, food retailers and contract packaging/filler companies throughout Europe.

The other big challenge was to find candidates who had not only dealt with the manufacturers but also with the retailers where there is a limited pool of candidates who could fit the profile.

After a European wide and In-depth search, Standley Associates were able to put a shortlist of candidates.These three candidates were all put forward to the company as interesting applicants for the role.

After an in-depth interview process over three months, the successful candidate started with the business.
