Engineering Manager TPM Case Study
Engineering Manager - TPM
Aerospace Industry Tier 1 Supplier/Manufacturer
Our client, the UK subsidiary of a major international group is a volume manufacturer of specialist machined/assembled components for applications within the aerospace industry with customers including the major aircraft manufacturers.
Having previously appointed to this key position within the company’s senior management team the previous incumbent had handed in his notice after a relatively short period within the role.
This had numerous implications regarding cost of recruitment, employment, development, training and resultant general disruption and lack of continuity etc. affecting the management team and the workforce in general.
With this role being key to the implementation of major change initiatives within the company the MD was keen to minimise the risk of repeating this unfortunate situation and its effect on production and so called in Standley Associates to conduct a rigorous recruitment process.
Following a meeting with the MD, Production Director and HR Manager a detailed brief was constructed covering all aspects of the required background and experience of the ‘ideal’ candidate but also emphasising likely current career level, manufacturing background and location.
We carried out this recruitment using our ‘blended search’ approach. This approach incorporates up to date web 2.0 searching techniques, social media utilisation, targeted resourcing and pro-active headhunting tactics that draw on our extensive engineering networks and database, as well as our UK and research resources.
This combined approach is an important part of recruiting both senior and specific roles where the talent pool is harder to reach, and potential candidates may be happy to stay where they are.
This is a particular expertise of Standley Associates where we are able to engage with the best talent, to enter into detailed discussion about the role, and present an alternative career option to candidates.
From this we were able to identify a number of potential candidates and carried out detailed, face to face briefing and interviewing of seven individuals, presenting a shortlist of three candidates for client interview.
The client subsequently final interviewed two of these candidates and was delighted to make an offer to one of them.
Standley Associates assisted in the formulation and negotiation of the final offer to the successful candidate and maintained close contact with the successful candidate during the course of his three month notice period to maintain awareness should any issues arise which might affect his move to this new role.
